Are surveyors and valuers still doing surveys during the UK lockdown caused by COVID-19?
Yes, government guidelines permit surveyors to carry on surveying and inspecting houses during the COVID 19 crisis.
What do the government guidelines for surveyors say?
The guidance advises surveyors should not expect to carry out non-urgent surveys in homes where people are in residence, and no inspections should take place if any person in the property is showing symptoms, self-isolating or being shielded.
They say it may be possible to carry out some of your work online and also carry out urgent surveys on empty properties, or those where the occupants are out of the property or following guidance to stay at home and away from others.
Surveyors should follow the latest government guidance for tradespeople working in people’s homes. No work should be carried out by a tradesperson who has coronavirus symptoms, however mild.
Collier Stevens’ surveyors are working within these restrictions and we risk assess every job on a case by case basis. We ask occupiers or vendors to complete a short questionnaire before we visit to confirm the situation and then we inspect.
We do ask that doors are left open and dark rooms are lit so that we do not have to use or touch door handles and light switches, unless essential we also do not use the taps and WCs.
If we are asked to inspect a defect that is not serious and not urgent and which we agree with you can wait, we think it safer to wait. We will book an appointment with you now for the future.
What PPE do our surveyors carry?
Our surveyors have disposable gloves, carry their own soap, towels and anti-bacterial wipes.
Our priorities are staff safety, client safety and occupier safety.
If you need a building survey, need to start a party wall matter, need advice or need any other building inspection you can contact us by phone or simply make an online enquiry and we will see how we can help.
Although we are continuing to work in London and Kent many other firms of Surveyors are providing services to the rest of the UK – the RICS Find A Surveyor Directory will help you find one.
